Emmel Philips, an attorney by accident, grew up in the midwest, received a fine education from the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, went off to Notre Dame to study philosophy, continued those studies at the University of Texas at Austin, whence she departed with a Master’s Degree to attend a fourth-tier law school. After clerking for judges in the federal district and appellate courts, she now aspires to an extraordinarily ordinary life as a wife and mother. And, for the record, Emmel Philips is a pseudonym.

    For the other reader of this blog, I note that my dear husband is objecting to the label “midwest,” because it refers to a place that is not in the middle of the west of the United States. We do agree on where I grew up, just not on what to call it. (:
